GREAT TIP TUESDAY: DIY Wasp Traps

Hello all!

It has finally warmed up in the Pacific Northwest and the bees and wasps have made an appearance! Our neighborhood is like many others, people out working in the yard after the winter, planting flowers, raking up derbies, mowing lawns again, and that all important task of bringing out the BBQ from the long winters rest.  I tried to go outside to enjoy the sun, (living in NC for almost four years made me a sun baby) but the wasps have taken over the yard and the deck.

I am allergic to bees and wasps, I have to carry an epi-pen with me and go directly to the hospital kind of allergic!  When I was a kid, nothing happened, turn 30 and I get allergies up the wazoo and wasps are the worst!!  I blow up like a puffer fish, not good! So I wanted to make some traps, but didn't want to spend $10 each to keep the wasps at bay.  I looked for some DIY wasp traps and found one that looked quite simple to make.

We have 2 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 outside cats as well and don't want to take any chances on any of them being stung.  I know there are those of you who think this is cruel, I am sorry if you are offended in any way, but the safety of myself and my family come first.  If you have any other ideas that will work, please comment!

**NEW** What I Love Wednesday!!

Today I am starting another new segment, What I LOVE Wednesday!  My first post is going to be something I love because it makes me feel and look better, plus I use it everyday: philosophy redness & sensitivity facial products, it's called "keep the peace."

The reason I love it is because I have Rosecea, it is a skin chronic skin condition that can range from mild to severe redness on the face.  Rosecea also causes small veins to surface on the face to make the redness even more pronounced and mine sting when they are not being treated.  When my Rosecea first showed up it was very bad, I have two different types, my Dr. prescribed me a facial steroid and antibiotics to use, I used the facial steroid for about a year.  It caused me face to be greasy all the time and my face still stung (in addition, I could not go out into the sun), so when I moved from Washington State to North Carolina I decided to stop using the steroid.  I did not want a greasy face in the nice sunny state of NC, so I looked for an alternative.  Someone recommended Clinique to me and I used it for a while, but my skin was still greasy.  For a long time I just went without treating my Rosecea, but last fall I found philosophy. I use the products below:

I wash my face regularly, then use the moisturizer, wait a couple of minutes, then apply the color protector.  I generally do not use the color corrector unless I am wearing makeup because the product works so well against the stinging and redness of the Rosecea.  philosophy is not paying me and I am not affiliated with them in any way, I just love their products that much!  These products are available online at:

The are also available in various Ulta, Sephora, and Nordstrom stores, below is a link to a store near you!

Seattle Mariners Opening Day in Japan

The Seattle Mariners had their season opener in Japan last night and beat the Oakland A's 3-1 in extra innings! Ichiro went 4-for-5 in the game and tied Ken Griffey Jr. for opening day hits. Dustin Ackley, who went to school at UNC (whoot whoot) went 2-for-5 driving in the Mariners first 2 RBI's of the season and had a solo home run to right. King Felix, who had a small King's Court in attendance, pitched 8 innings with 6 strikeouts, 5 hits, and 1 run. I'm excited for the season and hope baseball is on your to do list this summer, I know it's on mine!

Modern Recipe Card, Personalized and Printable

One of my loves...

My husband and I coach an instructional softball team...I love them so much, so sad to see the season come to and end! We have some great times this season: girls hitting to the grass for the first time, making an out, getting a game ball, and gettting an extra base hit!!! They all improved so much and I'm so very proud of my own daughter Bella for having a great season and have a great attitude while playing!!

Getting started...

It seems it's always easy to come up with a plan, but making that plan come true is harder than you thought sometimes.  When I started with the digital images and scrapbooking paper I thought I could work all through the day at home because kids were at school, husband was at work, and I only had the animals to keep me company!  Well that was all wrong, there are so many distractions when working at your home!  I feel like things are going at a snails pace, but slowly but surely I'm getting things listed on Etsy, Zazzle, and Cafepress.  Right now I'm working on some fall and Christmas papers and clip art (it is actually two words, always thought it was one!)  I hope to get it all listed by the end of next week, so look out for it coming soon.  Thank you for checking out my page and look for new things coming soon!
